just wrapped up a florida. now, he's headed to virginia and then back here to ohio. he'll end his day in new hampshire. polls show this race is extremely close. a dead heat nationally. very close in the battleground states. perhaps a very slight advantage for president obama. he seems to have a little bit of momentum going into the final day. well, democrats point to long lines for early voting as a sign of enthusiasm, but republicans say their crowds are bigger and the obama magic from 2008 has warn off. the president's closing argument, a fair shot for everyone and a chance to do even better. >> we've made real progress these past four years, but here's the thing, ohio. we know we've got more work to do. that's why we're here today. >> but mitt romney says four years under a president romney will deliver change. >> four years ago, let's look at the promises the president made. he promised to do so very much. but frankly, he fell so very short. you hope that president obama would live up to his promise to bring people together to solve big problems, but he hasn't and i will. >> joini

. governor romney started his day off in sanford, florida. it does not end there. the president then flies off to columbus, ohio. followed by a stop in des moines, iowa, before ending the day in his hometown of chicago, where he will likely watch the election results come in. governor romney visiting battleground states including virginia, ohio, and new hampshire. we are also told that he will not be arriving in his hometown of belmont, massachusetts, until overnight tonight. what do the candidates campaign stops reveal about their strategies? and also what their internal polling tells him? joining me now is chris stirewalt. and michael brown. let me start with you. what does it tell us? >> it sounds like mitt romney is very eager to keep the path to the presidency to him open. that is to win ohio. if he can close what seems to be a persistent that small gap in ohio, his chances of winning the overall presidency are much higher. that's what he wants to do. megyn: michael, what does it say about mitt romney campaign on election day. something obama is not going to do. >> we are seeing a clo

voters in virginia. mr. obama holds a slightly wider lead in florida with support from 49% of likely voters compared to romney's 47%. >>> and an all-important ohio, our poll shows president obama holds a six-point lead over his republican rival with 51% to romney's 45%. nbc's tracie potts is in cincinnati, ohio with details on the candidate's final frantic day of campaigning. good morning to you. >> reporter: veronica, good morning. good morning, everyone. in ohio we are seeing that residents here are watching those polls. they know what the nation is saying about ohio. they are keenly wear of the importance of their vote and they're willing to stand in line for hours just to get a ballot. in cincinnati, the only line for early voting sunday wrapped around a whole city block. the wait, three hours. we found tony wilson at the back of the line. >> if you don't get it in, you can't complain later. you have to do your part. >> reporter: hamilton's county election administrator tells us they processed 22,000 voters, almost as many as 2008. >> as long as they're in line by the cutoff time
